Rooh Afza – which literally translates to soul refresher

Pankaj Singh in Indo-Pak Border

The most famous drink in India has a deep-rooted connection with Pakistan 🇵🇰?!?

Rooh Afza – which literally translates to soul refresher – has a unique story that shows how a great product survives the test of time!

Hakim Hafiz Abdul Majeed started the company Hamdard Laboratories.

He selected herbs and syrups from traditional Unani medicine & created a drink that would help counter heat strokes in the scorching heat of Delhi in 1906.

After the partition, Majeed’s younger son Hakim Mohammad Said migrated to East Pakistan and created another Hamdard.

The elder son decided to stay back in India and expand the business.

When Bangladesh was created in 1971, Said basically gave away his Hamdard to the people of newly formed Bangladesh and moved to Pakistan, where he incorporated and scaled Hamdard Pakistan.

Now, all the 3 countries enjoy this cool drink in the summer.

I’m also told the 3 drinks taste exactly the same as the same formula has been used since 1906!

While we might be divided by borders, at the end of the day we are all the same people and Rooh Afza is a testament to that.
