Indian college students do NOT want to be entrepreneurs

🤯 Surprising! Indian college students do NOT want to be entrepreneurs…

Yes, this was my experience when I visited a college for a talk.

Here’s what they said and how I convinced them otherwise…

My talk was supposed to be around presentations, entrepreneurship and investments.

I started it off with a question. ‘How many of you want to be entrepreneurs?’

To my surprise, about 5% raised their hands. That too reluctantly.

I thought entrepreneurship toh trend mein hai (Shark tank influence). I was wrong.

I dumped the speech I had originally prepared and made it my mission to convince them otherwise.

I asked a follow up question. ‘Why not entrepreneurship’

Most answers were geared towards the fact that it is a high risk occupation.

I tried to dig deeper and figured that financial constraints were less of a problem for this lot and they feared failure more.

My simple proposition was – pick up entrepreneurship for 2-3 years after college, try your hand at as many things as possible and at the end of this you will either – have a successful business OR be more employable than most people your age.

Well, I think my speech and the passion with which I spoke did the trick.

At the end of this talk, I asked the question again and more than 80% of the hands were raised!

I was a little disappointed to see a lack of interest in entrepreneurship from students initially, but was pleasantly surprised by their openness to the idea I proposed.

🚀 India is a rocketship and its fuel are our young entrepreneurs. Let’s take it to the moon!
